As a Doula and International Board Certified Lactation Consultant, Romie is dedicated to ensuring that every mother feels seen, heard, supported and empowered. A former IVF Embryologist, Romie’s doula journey began when she supported her cousin’s birth and she has since then supported several families. The birth of her first son brought her right back to the feet of her purpose, supporting mamas. Encountering hurdles during her own breastfeeding journey also brought to her attention the great need for lactation support for mamas as well as the great need for more lactation professionals of color, specifically in the black community. She has been fortunate enough to work with a nonprofit as a perinatal community health worker and certified breastfeeding specialist making significant connections with families within the community as she provided support. Fast forward to where we are today, after the birth of her second son this year, she is continuing that work by providing inpatient support as a hospital lactation consultant during the immediate postpartum stage in conjunction with providing outpatient support in her very own private practice, Journeying Mamas. Romie is honored that something as simple as her hands has allowed her to connect with and bring joy to so many families throughout her careers. She hopes that the work that she will continue to do as a birth worker will contribute to the immense work we have yet to accomplish when it comes to ending racial disparities in the maternal and infant health field.
